Tamil Nadu Celebrates 50,000+ Rooftop Solar Installations Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Tamil Nadu has reached a significant milestone in its renewable energy journey by successfully achieving 50,000+ rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY). This achievement reflects the growing awareness among households and communities about clean energy, cost savings, and sustainable living.
To mark this milestone and further strengthen public awareness, the Tamil Nadu Solar Energy Developers Association (TNSEDA) is organizing a Solar Awareness & Facilitation Event in Chennai. The event aims to educate homeowners, apartment associations, and businesses on the benefits of rooftop solar and the opportunities available through government support.
Why Rooftop Solar Matters Today
Rooftop solar is transforming the way homes and communities consume electricity. By generating power directly from sunlight, households can significantly reduce their dependence on conventional electricity sources and lower monthly EB bills.
Key benefits of rooftop solar include:
• Long-term reduction in electricity costs
• Clean and eco-friendly power generation
• Minimal maintenance with 25+ years of power generation
• Protection against rising electricity tariffs
With the availability of government subsidies and easy financing options, rooftop solar has become more affordable and accessible than ever before.
Government Support Under PM Surya Ghar Yojana
Under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, eligible residential consumers can avail attractive subsidies for rooftop solar installations:
• 1 kW – ₹30,000 subsidy
• 2 kW – ₹60,000 subsidy
• 3 kW – ₹78,000 subsidy
In addition to subsidies, homeowners can also access bank loans at around 6% interest, making it possible to install solar systems with minimal upfront investment. In many cases, the monthly EMI can be comparable to the existing EB bill, helping households recover their investment within 4–5 years.
TNSEDA’s Role in Solar Awareness
TNSEDA plays a vital role in guiding consumers through the rooftop solar journey. The association connects people with verified and experienced solar vendors, explains subsidy eligibility, and clarifies the approval and installation process.
As part of its ongoing efforts, TNSEDA is also launching digital initiatives to spread solar awareness across Tamil Nadu and help consumers make informed decisions.
Solar Awareness & Facilitation Event in Chennai
The upcoming event in Chennai will bring together government officials, financial institutions, and leading solar industry experts. Participants will gain clear insights into:
• Choosing the right rooftop solar system
• Understanding subsidies and loan processes
• Vendor selection and best practices
• Net metering and approvals
The event will also mark the launch of TNSEDA’s digital marketing initiatives aimed at educating the public on rooftop solar benefits.
Building a Brighter, Solar-Powered Tamil Nadu
The achievement of 50,000+ rooftop solar installations is more than just a number—it represents thousands of families taking a step toward energy independence and sustainability. With continued awareness, strong policy support, and industry collaboration, Tamil Nadu is well on its way to becoming a leader in rooftop solar adoption.
Rooftop solar is not just an investment in energy—it is an investment in a cleaner, smarter future.
